The Arch was built in 1965. It is important to many people in the area. When new people come to East Saint Louis, that is the number one thing they like to see.

The Mississippi River overlook was built in the spring of 2009. The overlook is the same height as the arch. This park is different from other parks because most parks do not have a statue of the person who is named after the park.
